Did you know that you can add home videos to scrapbooks and photobooks? Whether physical or digital, this step is easy and adds a real wow factor!
Earlier this year, I wrote a series on how to create beautiful and custom photobooks using the Project Life and Shutterfly apps (to view the series, type “photobook” into the search bar at the top of this page). One of the most common questions that I received after that series was “How can I add home videos to scrapbooks and photobooks?”
Today, I’m going to share my method of documenting video inside our family yearbooks.
How to Add Home Video to Scrapbooks and Photobooks:
The first step is to upload your videos to YouTube.
You can set them as unlisted, and they won’t be visible unless you have the direct link. (It will only be viewable to those you send the link to.)
Once the video is uploaded, copy the video link and head to a site that creates QR Codes, such as this one.
At the bottom of the page, click the option that says convert to dynamic. This allows you to go back and make changes to the information stored inside the barcode, without having to create a new one and outdating your old one.
Enter your URL under the tab that says URL (next to Text) and hit save. Save as a PNG file with your preferred file name. I usually use a Year – Video Name format, to keep it organized.
If you create physical scrapbooks, print your QR code images, and adhere them into your albums. For digital scrapbooks or photobooks, insert it somewhere in your album just as you would another image.
Adding Home Video to Scrapbooks Using Project Life App
I create a page in the app with blank spaces and some filler cards (these are from the Kiwi edition). I make blank spaces by using a white card from the Neutral pack, to get rid of the orange and teal squares.
Save the page, transfer it to your computer, and open in photoshop or GIMP. Drag the QR codes into the empty boxes and add titles with the text box function. Save, and upload to your printer of choice – for me, I upload them all to Shutterfly (aff. link) to create our family yearbooks.
When printed, download any QR Code reader on your mobile device, and scan the code with your phone. The video will be pulled up and automatically played for you.
Pretty cool, right?!
I'd love to hear from you! Leave a comment!
