Today, I am sharing a fun addition to any party or event – DIY Glitter Tattoos!
**Update: Today is Wednesday, and I applied these tattoos on Sunday afternoon. My youngest daughter started picking at hers the second after she got it on, but my oldest daughters is still going strong! No fading, no glitter loss, nothing! She does try to keep it out of the water in the tub, because the glue will dissolve in water, but seriously, these things hold up very well!**
Here’s how you can make your own DIY Glitter Tattoos:
You will need:
- an adhesive stencil (or use adhesive stencil roll and cut your own stencil)
- eyelash glue* (see note below)
- glitter
**Note about glue: I think you could use regular white glue – I mean, it would serve the same purpose and work as well, and eyelash glue is relatively expensive (this tube was $8). However, I figured since eyelash glue must be safe for your skin, I would use that. However, my children have covered themselves in glue on more than one occasion and been completely fine, so it’s your call. Just don’t sue me if your child is sensitive and gets a rash. I absolve myself of all liability here 🙂
The steps are very easy, and I’m sure you can figure it out from the above pictures:
- Apply the stencil to the skin.
- Cover the exposed area with a thin layer of glue. (Too much and it will seep under the stencil and glob up.)
- Shake on your first color of glitter. Blow off the extra. (I wanted my colors to “co-mingle” a little, so I blew a little into the other section.
- Shake on the other colors of glitter, and then remove the stencil.
Cecelia got a moon, while Stella wanted a BOO! on her forearm – which she was very excited to have photographed, can’t you tell? The less detailed these tattoos the better (i.e. a heart would look very cute, but things with small details get lost). They absolutely love them, and do you know what? I know you would be expecting the glitter to be shedding like crazy? Well, I can’t tell you how well that glue holds the glitter on. I brushed over them with my thumb and not a speck of glitter came off on my thumb. It holds really, really well, so you don’t have to worry about trails of glitter everywhere. My girls have asked for about ten more since we did these ones, so I think I better stock up on more glitter!
Hope you have enjoyed this simple and quick way to add to any festivity!
