Earlier this summer, we held my youngest daughters birthday party. Two years ago, she requested a cheetah themed Frozen party, and last year, it was a Beanie Boo Adoption party, but this year, she decided it was all going to rainbows and unicorns for her party.
Unicorn Birthday Party
This was such a fun theme for me to work with. In fact, I loved the printable signs so much that I still have them in my craftroom! They’re just that adorable. And look at all of these fun colors…
This was a quick shot I took of everything dumped on my table before I started putting together the favor bags and decor. All of the color made me smile, so I had to grab a shot of it!
Unicorn Party Favors
Stella really wanted a pinata at this party, but as I’ve mentioned before, I hate filling a big box full of candy and having the kids have a free for all, grabbing as much candy as they can. So I always put one of everything in the pinata for each kid and give them a favor bag to fill. I love to personalize them too, so they look custom to the party.
For instance, one of the girls favorites from the pinata this year were these custom notebooks that I created using the unicorn printables from the party. (If you want to purchase the party printables from this party, you can grab them at my etsy shop.)
I printed the notebook covers on printable vinyl, then used my Cricut paper trimmer (which is great for quick jobs like this) to cut them down to size. I put them on top of notebooks from the Dollar Tree to create a coordinated party favor.
I also cut small rectangle tags (again, printed on printable vinyl) with my trimmer and stuck them on small cans of modelling dough. We couldn’t find the small tubs of Play Doh, so dollar store cans had to do, but I ended up loving the colors!
We also included rainbow lollipops (from Target), colored pens, and fun pencils in the pinata. Each guest also received a unicorn bubble wand (see how we decorated them with holographic vinyl).
Unicorn Party Activities
One of the activities at the party was Pin the Horn on the Unicorn, which the guests had a lot of fun playing! (Horns are included in the party printable package, by the way!) Using really sharp, fine tipped scissors like these ones from my Cricut tool set made it easy to cut around all of the curves and small corners.
I printed the guests names on the horns, and laminated them. After they were done playing, they each took their unicorn horn home to use as a bookmark.
The other party activity that we did was Unicorn Bingo, which was also a smash hit. I created a printable Bingo game (you can grab it at my Etsy shop as well) and printed the bingo cards two per page.
The game lets each player customize their own board by sticking the bingo squares on themselves. This makes sure the boards are all different. The printable includes 30 possible choices, and only 25 squares, so the chances of duplicate cards are very low! (You can also see the activity we worked on while guests were still arriving underneath the bingo sheet. It was a unicorn crown that you cut and glue to make a headband. I found them on Etsy from a cute little shop called Put a Crown On It!)
The prize for winning the bingo game was a bag of Unicorn Bacon (rainbow strips of candy, cut in thirds). I printed the tags on cardstock, poked a hole with my Cricut weeder, and attached the tag with baker’s twine. We played enough games so that each guest had the chance to win a bag of “Unicorn Bacon”.
Unicorn Party Decor / Unicorn Party Food
We held this party at a really crazy time in the year, so we kept the decorations minimal. We had some fun rainbow food, and I printed the adorable unicorn signs that I mentioned above for the food table. I also used a felt garland and attached photos of my daughter to it with gold glittered clothespins.
She wanted an ice cream bar, so we had ice cream with all of the toppings, as well as cupcakes, goldfish cookies, rainbow fruit skewers, and chocolate dipped strawberries.
Here’s a tip for saving money on cupcakes: order them from Wal-Mart or another bakery and have them iced in all white. Sprinkle various colors of decorating sugars and place a matching sixlet on top of each. I received so many compliments and they only cost $8 for a dozen.
I just loved the way all of these bright colors came together and made for such a magical party, don’t you?
