Are you wondering where to buy Cricut Maker in Canada? Is it worth it to order from the US, with the exchange rate and risk of duties? This post breaks it down!
Ahh, the age old challenge of trying to order something in Canada that originates in the US. The price difference often makes your head spin, and wonder which option is the better one. Don’t worry, I will explain all of the options and tell you which one I personally recommend at the end of the article. Let’s go!
Where to Buy Cricut Maker in Canada
Option #1: Michaels
Michael’s has really increased their stock of Cricut products since the release of the Maker. They now carry a wide range of vinyl, iron on, and tools, including all three sizes of the new Easy Press 2. However, the machines still have a hefty price tag, and you can’t use any coupons on them. Let’s take a look at how it breaks down:
Cricut Maker: $499. Duties: $0. Exchange: $0. Shipping: $0. TOTAL = $499 CAD (plus applicable taxes)
Cricut Explore Air 2: $299. Duties: $0. Exchange: $0. Shipping: $0. TOTAL = $299 CAD (plus applicable taxes)

Option #2: Amazon
Let me preface this by saying something I’m sure you already know: Amazon.ca is nowhere near as fabulous as Amazon.com. It doesn’t have the large selection of products that it’s American site does, and when similar products are available, they are usually double (or more) the price. So how do Cricut machines fare out on Amazon?
Cricut Maker: $499. Duties: $0. Exchange: $0. Shipping: $0. TOTAL = $499 CAD (plus applicable taxes)*
Cricut Explore Air 2: $349.99. Duties: $0. Exchange: $0. Shipping: $2.50. TOTAL = $352.49 CAD (plus applicable taxes)*

Option #3: Cricut Website
If you were to ask me, I would always recommend ordering directly from the Cricut website. It is where you will find the best sales and deals, and while the prices for the Maker are the same, you pay no taxes and can receive 10% off with an Access subscription. Depending on which province you live in, and your tax rate, thats a savings of close to $100 off the Michaels price. The Explore family of machines are almost always on sale, so you can really rack up the savings here. Shipping is free over $99 and you won’t pay any duties – so what you see is what you pay! Also, these prices were calculated using the price for a stand alone machine, and don’t show the great deals you could score in a machine bundle.
Cricut Maker: $399. Duties: $0. Exchange: ~30% as of publish date (=$119.70). Shipping: Free over $99. TOTAL = $519.70 CAD (no taxes)*
Cricut Explore Air 2: $299.99, regular; often on sale for $199.99 Duties: $0. Exchange:~30% as of publish date (=$90 for $299, $60 for $199). Shipping: Free over $99 TOTAL = $389 or $259 CAD (no taxes)*
BUT – if you subscribe to Access ($10 a month for access to Cricut’s Design Library), you get 10% off, making the price $466.70 for the Maker (30% exchange included), and $349.83 or $232.83 for the Explore Air 2 (30% exchange included).
*prices calculated using the price for a stand alone machine, not including any bundles.

Just wondering if it’s 100% duty free when you order through Cricut’s website. Also, when your package gets randomly checked by Customs, they are required to place tax on it (rule: items priced more than 20 CAD gets taxed). It’s so hard to decide since you have to leave it to chance whether you get charged by Customs or not. I still can’t decide where to purchase my machine.

I spoke with Cricut’s people when I was at their office in March and they told me all packages shouldnt be charged customs, as they handle all of the customs and duty fees ahead of time.
Devi says
All items are actually charged a 5% USD tax after discounts. I’ve ordered from them many times and it shows it in the shopping bag.
Sarah says
You’re right! I meant to say there is no provincial sales tax, just the 5% GST. Sorry about that!

Thank you for this article! This was exactly the answer I needed in my Google search. I will be ordering for the cricut website.

Stephanie Farrell Sprenger says
did you order the machine for the USA and did you get charged any customs or tax?
Sarah says
Hi Stephanie – I was charged tax (only GST, so 5%) but no duties. Cricut makes sure the duties and custom fees are included!

Thanks for the awesome article. I see that Costco also sells it for $450CAD. I have yet to figure out if I should buy from Costco or the Cricut website. I like the fact that it’s a easy return when I buy from Costco as I am unsure how it works on the Cricut website. Also there are so many different bundles on the cricut website. If I were to buy from the website, which bundle is better for a beginner?

Hi Sandie! I love the Cricut bundles. They are such a great value. It really depends on what you would rather have – supplies (http://shrsl.com/1jjcc) or tools (http://shrsl.com/1jjc9). If you would like to get used to using the standard blade first before trying new tools, I would suggest the first bundle with the supplies! Hope that helps!
